Vogue Magazine's 2007 Holiday Issue Features Downtown Atlantic Avenue Shopping

Atlantic Avenue shopping and stores, the focus of a 1 1/2 page special feature entitled “four ways to find the perfect present” of the Vogue Magazine Holiday Issue for December 2007, is beautifully described by its author, Jane Herman, as "beautifully executed petite boutiques" that "sell only a handful of forward-thinking labels or one-of-a-kind finds from the far ends of the Earth." The avenue itself, Herman described as having a "a string of antique stores and minimalist boutiques" in an area of "artfully understated lifestyle." Highlighted in a "best of boutiques" box, gift items from Darr, A Brooklyn Table, Layla, Bark, Butter, Maleeka, Dig gardens, and Bookcourt are listed. Herman writes that "the gifts one finds here...will certainly have the souvenir-like specialness that often trumps celebrity status."

2008 Winners of Annual Atlantic Avenue Holiday Window Design Competition:

First Place: Mai Restaurant at 497 Atlantic Ave between Third Avenue & Nevins Street. Mai’s window was designed by Kristin Austin,

Second Place: Dig Gardens, 479 Atlantic Avenue between Third Avenue and Nevins Street. Dig’s owner, Chuck Door, designed the window himself.

Third Place: Opalia Flowers, at their new address, 377 Atlantic Avenue between Hoyt & Bond Streets.

Honorable Mention: Melting Pot, 492 Atlantic Avenue between Third Avenue and Nevins Street, Blue Marble, 420 Atlantic Avenue between Bond and Nevins Streets, and Downtown Atlantic restaurant, 364 Atlantic Avenue between Hoyt and Bond Streets.
